New publication on the pandemic

Drawing on our qualitative survey across six African countries, a new brief article has been published in Routed Magazine examining how refugees experienced the Covid-19 pandemic and its aftermath. The paper is co-authored by Alexander de Jager, Hannah Edler, Ndabaramiye Joshua Gato, Rose Jaji, Ulrike Krause, Khangelani Moyo, Kalyango R. Sebba, Nadine Segadlo, and Franzisca Zanke. While facing many of the same challenges as citizens in the Global South, refugees experienced additional difficulties due to displacement — including reduced access to healthcare, food insecurity, loss of income, and restricted education. Mental health concerns, rising xenophobia, and increased risks of violence further intensified these impacts. The findings underscore how the pandemic deepened existing inequalities and highlight the lasting effects on refugees‘ everyday lives.
